Ce groupe de plantes toujours vertes pousse sur les pierres ou les \u00e9corces d&rsquo;arbres et pr\u00e9f\u00e8re les endroits humides. Pourtant, en y regardant de plus pr\u00e8s, on d\u00e9couvre de magnifiques structures qui ne pourraient pas \u00eatre plus vari\u00e9es. Plus de 1000 esp\u00e8ces de mousses sont connues en Suisse. Dans les \u00ab\u00a0tapis de mousse\u00a0\u00bb, diff\u00e9rents animaux trouvent abri et protection contre les pr\u00e9dateurs ou y puisent de la nourriture. Ce sont surtout les petits animaux, dont d\u00e9pendent les plus grands, qui en profitent. Mais nous aussi, les humains, tirons un grand profit des mousses. Celles-ci peuvent en effet filtrer la poussi\u00e8re, absorber les substances nutritives de l&rsquo;air pour les transporter ensuite dans un \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me. L&rsquo;absorption d&rsquo;eau provenant de l&rsquo;air permet \u00e9galement de r\u00e9guler le microclimat et de maintenir l&rsquo;humidit\u00e9 du sol.
